Three major activities take place at Denel Aerostructures Sheet Metal Facility, namely routing; pressing / stretching and handforming.
The Sheet Metal Facility team comprises 40 people. Personnel are trained and experienced in operating the machines/ tooling, with additional training being provided during commissioning of new machines or industrialisation of new products.
Parts manufactured in the Sheet Metal Facility include complex components which are either handformed (such as helicopter door frames) or pressed / stretched (e.g. tail boom skins and torsion boxes). Denel Aerostructures has also recently invested in a fluid cell press. This promises to further enhance the work performed by the Sheet Metal Facility. Fluid Cell press (Quintus Press Type QFC 1.1 x 4 - 1000)
High pressure forming press. The press has the capability to do multiple sheet metal part forming cycles with a usable tray of 1.1 x 4 meters. It has an estimated capacity of 200,000 parts per year on a one shift scenario. Metallic Manufacturing Specifications
